Martha Channer

The content of my work is both psychological and literary: the imagery is descriptive of states of consciousness and through this the work tells a “story” in the abstracted, often symbolic, language of the unconscious.

My painting style is not object oriented or reality based. The forms used are informed by color, which is a key part of the language of my imagination and one that best describes deepest reality. The work actively seeks to connect the viewer to the transpersonal core that lives within each of us.

Martha Channer Received her BFA in painting and printmaking, with a minor in Art History, from Barat College in Illinois. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied spatial design, sculpture, and paint applications. She is also a performance artist and choreographer, which she currently incorporates into her large scale installations and exhibitions.
